New World

New World Southmall is the centre’s anchor supermarket and the reason a lot of people come through the doors. It runs an in-store bakery, butchery, seafood and deli counters, fresh produce, and the full grocery range including beer, wine and cider. Click & Collect is available through the New World site, and the store trades well beyond the mall’s own hours.

Like every New World it is owner-operated under the Foodstuffs North Island co-operative. The store has form locally: it gave away $50,000 of groceries to Manurewa households in 2020, and in 2023 it voluntarily added a condition to its own alcohol licence banning single-can sales of cheap high-strength beer and cider.
